April 11: The Bread of Life
Scripture: "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger..." — John 6:35
The soul has a hunger that nothing in this world can satisfy. We try to fill it with relationships, accomplishments, or possessions, but the ache remains. Truth tells us that this hunger is actually a "homesickness" for God. Jesus presents Himself as the only nourishment that can truly sustain us for eternity.
To "eat" the Bread of Life is to internalize the teachings and character of Christ. It means more than just reading the Bible; it means allowing the Word to become part of our spiritual DNA. Just as physical bread gives strength to our muscles, the spiritual Bread gives strength to our will and clarity to our conscience.
In the Adventist health message, we are encouraged to choose simple, wholesome foods that nourish the body. The same principle applies to our spiritual diet. Are we feeding on the "junk food" of worldly entertainment and gossip, or are we feeding on the "solid food" of deep scriptural study and meditation? What we "eat" spiritually determines our spiritual health.
Today, come to the table God has prepared. Spend time "feasting" on a passage of Scripture that speaks to your current need. Let the Truth of His love satisfy the deep hunger of your soul. You will find that when you are full of Him, the "table scraps" of the world no longer hold any attraction.
Reflection Questions:
What have I been trying to "satisfy my soul's hunger" with lately?
Is my "spiritual diet" balanced and nourishing, or is it mostly "spiritual snacks"?
How can I more practically "internalize" God's Word today?
