April 14: The Living Water
Scripture: "But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst..." — John 4:14
In the heat of the day, there is nothing like a cool drink of water. Jesus uses this simple, universal need to explain a profound spiritual Truth. The world offers many "fountains"—wealth, fame, pleasure—but they all leave us thirsty again. Only the "Living Water" of Christ’s presence can satisfy the deepest thirst of the human soul.
This water is an "inexhaustible fountain." We don't just take one drink and walk away; we must continually draw from it. He in whom Christ dwells has within himself a source of blessing. This influence then flows forth in "words and actions," refreshing everyone within our sphere of influence. We become "givers" because we are constantly receiving.
The health message emphasizes the importance of pure water for physical vitality. It cleanses the system and keeps every organ functioning properly. In the same way, the Living Water of Truth cleanses our minds from the "toxins" of sin and keeps our spiritual life vibrant. It is the "source of spiritual power" implanted within us.
Don't go through the day "parched." Turn to the Word, spend time in prayer, and let the presence of Jesus refresh you. When you are full of His grace, you will find that you have a "spring in the desert" to offer to others who are ready to perish. Drink deeply today.
Reflection Questions:
What "fountains of the world" have I been trying to drink from lately?
How can I be more of a "refresher" to the people around me?
In what ways does physical hydration remind me of my spiritual need?
