April 25: The Patient Wait

April 25: The Patient Wait

Scripture: "I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry." — Psalm 40:1

Waiting is one of the most difficult spiritual disciplines. We live in an "instant" culture, but God often works on a "eternal" timeline. Truth reminds us that "there is a time for every purpose under heaven." Waiting is not "lost time"; it is "forming time"—a season where God works in us while He prepares the way for us.

Patience is a "Fruit of the Spirit." It is the ability to maintain a spirit of Love and Trust even when the answer is "not yet." During these seasons, we are tempted to take matters into our own hands, but the result is often a "Ishmael" instead of a "Isaac." To wait for the Lord is to acknowledge His sovereignty and His perfect timing.

God "inclines" His ear to us. He is not indifferent to our waiting. He hears every cry and knows every tear. The "silence" of God is not the "absence" of God. He is often doing His most important work behind the scenes, aligning circumstances and strengthening our faith so that we are ready for the breakthrough.

If you are in a "waiting room" today, don't be discouraged. Use this time to "dwell in the sanctuary" of His presence. Strengthen your "roots" so that when the season of growth comes, you will be able to sustain the weight of the blessing. Trust the One who is "faithful to all His promises."

Reflection Questions:

What am I currently "waiting for," and how is it testing my faith?

How can I "wait actively" (serving and growing) instead of "waiting passively" (worrying)?

What does it mean to me that God "inclines to me and hears my cry"?
