April 13: The Strength of Unity

April 13: The Strength of Unity
Scripture: "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" — Psalm 133:1
Unity is not the absence of difference; it is the presence of love in the midst of difference. In a world characterized by division and polarization, the church is called to be a "city on a hill" that demonstrates a better way. Truth binds us together, not because we agree on every minor detail, but because we are all centered on the same Savior.
The "spirit of criticism" is a poison that destroys unity. When we focus on the faults of others, we lose sight of our own need for grace. True love "covers a multitude of sins" and seeks to build up rather than tear down. As Adventists, our strength lies in our shared mission—to prepare a people for the coming of the King.
Unity requires humility. We must be willing to listen, to forgive, and to put the needs of the body above our own preferences. When we move together in harmony, we are far more effective in sharing the Truth with the world. A divided church is a silent witness, but a united church is an "irresistible power."
Today, choose to be a "bridge builder" instead of a "wall maker." Speak words of encouragement to someone you usually disagree with. Seek to understand before being understood. Let the Love that holds the universe together also hold your relationships together.
Reflection Questions:
Where do I see "division" in my immediate spiritual community, and how can I help heal it?
Is my current attitude "building bridges" or "building walls"?
How does focusing on our "shared mission" help overcome personal differences?
