May 6: The Patience of the Process

May 6: The Patience of the Process

Scripture: "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise... Instead he is patient with you..." — 2 Peter 3:9

If God had insisted on "Plan A" immediately after the fall, the weight of His unfiltered glory would have consumed us. Instead, He chose the "Plan B" of a long, slow history. He chose to work through flawed patriarchs and stubborn prophets over thousands of years. This "Radical Accommodation" is God’s choice to prioritize process over instant results. He is a God who is willing to wait generations just to ensure the safety of one child.

Adventist theology emphasizes that the "Great Controversy" is a trial played out before the universe. God could have ended sin in a heartbeat, but that would have been "Plan A" force—and God only accepts "Plan A" love. Instead, He uses "Plan B" patience. He allows the harvest of sin to ripen so that every being in the universe can see that His way is the only way of life. He accommodates the timeline of history to ensure a permanent cure.

Ellen White suggests that "God never leads His children otherwise than they would choose to be led, if they could see the end from the beginning." We often want the "Plan A" shortcut—the instant healing or the quick restoration. But God knows that the "Plan B" journey—the long walk through the wilderness—is where our character is actually formed. He accommodates our need for growth by giving us the gift of time.

This patience means that God is never "surprised" by how long it takes us to learn a lesson. He is not tapping His foot in frustration; He is walking at our pace. He knows that a "forced" holiness is no holiness at all. By accommodating the slow pace of human change, He proves that He values our freedom more than His own schedule.

Today, if you feel like your progress is too slow, remember the "Principle of the Pivot." God is not slow; He is being thorough. He is accommodating your need to learn, to fail, and to get back up. He is building a bridge that is strong enough to carry your whole weight, and that kind of construction takes time. Trust the Father’s clock over your own.

Reflection Questions:

Where in my life am I trying to "rush" God into a Plan A result when He is teaching me through a Plan B process?

How does God’s patience with the "Great Controversy" help me be more patient with my own growth?

What is one thing I only learned because the journey was "the long way around"?
