September 2: I Know That My Redeemer Lives

What truth do you cling to when every earthly support has been stripped away from your life? When circumstances are at their darkest, the light of our living Redeemer shines with undeniable clarity.

Bildad and Zophar continued their relentless attacks, painting terrifying descriptions of the fate of the wicked and insisting that Job’s misery was undeniable proof of his hypocrisy. Feeling completely abandoned by his relatives, forgotten by his servants, and alienated from his wife, Job reached the lowest point of his earthly distress. Yet, from the depths of that dark valley, Job uttered one of the most magnificent confessions of faith in all of Scripture, proclaiming that his Redeemer lives and that in his resurrected flesh he would one day see God with his own eyes.

The sharp pain point in this narrative is the total collapse of human support during a prolonged crisis. It is heartbreaking to watch friends turn away, family grow distant, and physical strength waste away under unrelenting pressure. This deep loneliness can make the soul feel entirely forgotten, leading to the despairing thought that death will have the final, victorious word.

This breathtaking testimony urges us to transition from earthly devastation to triumphant, resurrection hope. Job looked far beyond the pain of his present decay and fixed his gaze upon the day when the Redeemer will stand upon the earth to set all things right. When you anchor your heart in the resurrection of Christ, no amount of present loss or sickness can rob you of your eternal inheritance.

As Ellen White affirms in The Ministry of Healing, p. 458, "Our heavenly Father has a thousand ways to provide for us, of which we know nothing. Those who accept the one principle of making the service and honor of God supreme will find perplexities vanish, and a plain path before their feet."
