July 4: The Long-Suffering of God

  • Bible Reading: None (Thematic Study)
  • SOP Reading Reference: Patriarchs and Prophets, pp. 39b–43
  • SOP Chapter Title: Why Was Sin Permitted?

When we see injustice running rampant in our world, we often wonder why God delays His final judgments and allows wickedness to persist for so long. This section reveals the profound depths of divine patience, showing why the Creator permitted Satan's rebellion to fully mature before the universe.

This delay creates a heavy and exhausting burden for the faithful, who must navigate a world filled with the painful, bitter fruits of the enemy's alternative government. We look at the triumph of deceit, the heartbreak of innocent suffering, and the enemy's constant accusations, and we wonder if righteousness will ever be vindicated. This is the lonesome point of spiritual exhaustion, where the enemy whispers that God is indifferent to our pain, tempting us to abandon our post and lower our standards.

Yet, it was in this exact cosmic crisis that the relentless, long-suffering grace of God was most brilliantly displayed to all unfallen worlds. Had Satan been blotted out immediately, the angels would have served God out of fear rather than love, leaving the root of rebellion completely unhealed in the heart of the universe. God allowed the conflict to develop so that the true, murderous nature of sin could be completely exposed, ensuring a permanent, voluntary loyalty built entirely on love.

Through this incredible revelation, we see that our current struggles are part of a larger cosmic cleansing that will eventually result in the total, permanent eradication of evil. When you realize that God's timing is driven by a desire to save and secure every heart forever, your impatience is transformed into an absolute, resting trust in His wisdom. Our scars cease to be reminders of the enemy's temporary triumphs, and become radiant proof of a divine rescue and an unstoppable, conquering love.

Reflection Questions:
  1. When you feel impatient with God's timing in dealing with injustice, does remembering His cosmic patience toward rebels help you trust His ultimate wisdom?
  2. God desires your service to be motivated entirely by love, not by a fear of punishment. Does your daily obedience flow from a deep affection for Christ, or is it driven by a fear of negative consequences?
